ABOUT THE GATHERING

We often become very good at giving.

Giving our time.

Giving our energy.

Giving our care.

Giving our attention.

Giving to our families, our work, our relationships and the people around us.

But receiving can sometimes feel much harder.

Receiving help.

Receiving love.

Receiving a compliment.

Receiving rest.

Receiving pleasure.

Receiving money.

Receiving support.

Receiving an opportunity.

Receiving more than we are used to allowing ourselves to have.

This Connection/Discovery is an invitation to explore the art of receiving.

Not simply asking for more, but becoming curious about our capacity to actually let more in.

Sometimes we say we want more love, more abundance, more support, more rest or more pleasure, yet when it arrives we may minimise it, deflect it, question it or push it away.

We may say:

“I’m fine.”

“I don’t need anything.”

“You didn’t have to do that.”

“I can do it myself.”

“That’s too much.”

Or perhaps we immediately feel the need to give something back.

For many of us, giving can feel safer than receiving.

Giving can allow us to feel useful, capable and in control.

Receiving asks something different.

It can ask us to soften.

To trust.

To allow.

To remain present when something good is being offered.

And sometimes to believe that we are worthy of receiving without first having to prove, earn or justify it.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RECEIVE?

Receiving does not mean becoming passive.

It does not mean sitting back and expecting life to simply hand us everything we desire.

It is about creating a balance between action and allowing.

Between reaching and receiving.

Between giving and letting ourselves be given to.

Sometimes receiving means recognising what is already here.

A loving relationship.

A supportive friend.

A beautiful morning.

A kind word.

A moment of rest.

A body that is asking us to slow down.

An opportunity that we might normally dismiss.

Sometimes the invitation is simply to stop long enough to notice.

And sometimes receiving requires us to create space.

If every part of our life is full, busy, controlled and tightly held, there may be very little room for anything new to enter.

OPEN TO MORE

Being open to more does not mean believing that what we have is not enough.

We can experience gratitude for what is already present and still desire more.

More connection.

More ease.

More joy.

More creativity.

More love.

More pleasure.

More abundance.

More support.

More spaciousness.

The question becomes:

Can I remain grateful for what I have while also allowing myself to desire what I would love next?

And perhaps even more importantly:

Am I willing to receive it?

During this gathering, we will create space to explore our relationship with receiving through meditation, breathwork, discussion, self-inquiry and reflection.

We may explore:

• The relationship between giving and receiving

• Why receiving can sometimes feel uncomfortable

• Where we may have learned to be overly independent

• The belief that we need to earn or deserve what we receive

• Allowing ourselves to ask for support

• Learning to accept compliments, kindness and care

• Receiving without immediately feeling the need to give something back

• Creating space for rest, pleasure and nourishment

• Our relationship with abundance and having more

• Recognising what we already receive every day

• Becoming more aware of where we close ourselves off

• Letting go of the need to control exactly how things arrive

• Creating greater balance between doing and allowing

• Becoming more available to opportunities, connection and possibility

You may be invited to consider:

• How comfortable am I with receiving?

• Is it easier for me to give than receive?

• What happens in my body when someone offers me support?

• How do I respond to a compliment?

• Where do I insist on doing everything myself?

• What am I afraid might happen if I allow someone else to contribute?

• Do I believe I need to earn rest, pleasure, love or support?

• What do I desire more of?

• Where might I already be receiving more than I recognise?

• What would I need to soften in order to allow more in?

• What am I ready to become more available for?

OPENING THROUGH THE BODY

Sometimes receiving is not something we can think our way into.

The body can show us where we feel open and where we instinctively brace, contract or pull away.

Through breathwork, meditation, gentle awareness and moments of stillness, we will create opportunities to notice our own patterns without judgement.

What happens when you soften your breath?

What happens when you stop doing for a moment?

What happens when you allow yourself to simply be supported by the floor beneath you?

Sometimes the practice of receiving begins with something very small.

A breath.

A pause.

A moment of stillness.

An acknowledgement that you do not have to hold everything all of the time.

EVERYTHING IS AN INVITATION

Every practice, question and discussion is an invitation.

You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels right for you.

You may participate in the practices, adapt them, rest or simply observe.

There is nothing you need to perform, achieve or prove.

This is a space to become curious about your own relationship with receiving and discover what feels supportive for you.

• Guided breathwork

• Gentle embodiment and body awareness

Come as you are.

Bring what you are carrying, what you are longing for and perhaps the places where you have become very good at doing everything on your own.

Together, we will create space to soften, breathe, become curious about what receiving means for you and explore what might become possible when you allow yourself to open to more.

Perhaps receiving is not about asking life to give us everything we want.

Perhaps it begins by noticing where life is already offering something and allowing ourselves to say:

Yes, I can receive this.

I would love to gather with you.
